If you are making your control panel underneath your layout, think about every time you add something, you have to crawl underneath your table. Think about putting your control panel facing the outside of the layout and covered with some type of door much easier to do the wiring from the outside than crawling underneath the layout.

This should be a basic engine in every layout/collection. The body, including the end steps, is all one piece. I have the custom run Amtrak 1100 and would really like to pick up a Pennsylvania or a Lackawanna the next time around. Love the layout and the way you observe prototypical scale speeds ... and not running its train at 50mph.

Very nice. You have a big basement. Mine is 1600+ square feet, but, unfortunately, has been subdivided, so I couldn't build the way that I really wanted to. I settled for a 24x18 L, seven foot four inches wide at the long end and nine foot at the short end. I like the way that you use that foam ballast, it looks like a solid product. I'm using tubular, so I have to go a slightly different way. Keep these updates coming, it should be interesting. An excellent video, for sure.

So easy to find 16 - 20 gage red and black wire. Everyone should follow some basic electrical safety and use red and black as a standard.

Really like the notched framework idea, along wit the cross-framing, that probably helps avoid any wobbling as well. Thanks for the tip about the HF saw and roadbed. Not a train question but your floor looks gorgeous. Is that tile or really clean, new concrete?

What ballast are you using?? I used Brennan’s and mixed in some scenic express to lengthen it as well

I agree with you on the roadbed. It’s funny I’ve actually been using that foam stuff for about 10 years now and it has been excellent for sound deadening. I know the guy that sells it as well and he’s really great to work with. The layout is looking great. I’m looking forward to seeing it progress over the years

This is going to be a fabulous lay out. I would like to ask you to consider one thing as you progress along that almost every UA-cam, and layout creator dismisses. There are a couple of us that are really interested in how the transformer lay out panel is equipped. We don’t think about it, but we spend a lot of time looking at our transformers And our switch controllers and all of the things that it takes to make the layout great. If you go to any UA-cam video, you may never see how the layout is powered whether you use new equipment or old equipment or a combination, layout panels, how they are laid out, where they are laid out, is actually pretty interesting. It may not be a focus of one of your videos, but I would like to see you include it for those few of us that are interested. Thanks, and keep up the great work.
